It is impossible to find any brand 300mm f/2.8 for $ 800.
I suggest you go to the next best thing, a 70-200mm f/2.8 zoom when you're not sure 200mm is enough for you, I (just think a few nice) to play basketball.
But the Canon offers expensive and only f / 4 IS version does not meet your requirements.
Here's what I found:

A lens sigma, $ 799. You do not know if this problem continues to have QC or not (often), but should do well. There is a cheaper alternative to the Tamron, but it focuses so slow that it is not appropriate for the sport in general.
Hope this helps.
Sigma, Tamron and Tokina all have a 70-200 f/2.8 zoom. Tokina At least fits into your budget, possibly all. There are reviews of these lenses are available on the Internet.
Canon 70-200 mm f/2.8 is what, $ 1200?
If you shoot in daylight, you might want to add a 1.4x teleconverter lens, pushing a 280 mm f / 4, the still quite decent. You can get the combo box in a stadium * really * well-lit and running, dealing with all ISO to work.
Canon 70-200mm f2.8 is a fantastic destination for sports, which is f/2.8.This for $ 800, but I recommend you replace the Sigma 70-200mm lens quickly and very well for the production of sports --
